First Year: Studio Performance

After these number of weeks on working and finalising my choreography and we ended up performing for Miss Norman in one of our choreography lesson.
This was actually the first time executing my solo in front of more than one person because in previous rehearsal time, I have shown my piece to some of my friends and have had feedback from them. This also links to Crystal Pite's own creative process as she has the involvement of her family whilst choreographing.

I will be adding and cleaning sections in my solo as I want my stimuli to come across clearly for the audience and this is also in reply to my feedback I received after I performed my piece.

I was given the following feedback:
* Use my head in my movements. I have a lot of fluidity with my arms but need to include the use of my head in the movements.
* Try and use my body and stomach more.
*Use of breath benefits my piece so I need to use more of it and when I do, the movement has to follow with it. It can't be any movement and add the breath to it.

I think all the feedback I fully understood and knew how to incorporate the certain things that was asked into my choreography.
In my next lesson, I will focus on all of these in depth for example; I will focus on certain movements and make sure that I involve my head in with it so my overall movement doesn't look stiff. Or I will combine movement and breath as my focal point and make it even more clear to the audience.
The feedback that I received will definitely benefit my choreography as it is from a teachers perspective and it is the most important feedback I will be given up to the assessment.

Whilst performing my solo, I will ensure that I make eye contact with the audience so they are captivated and fully comprehend my idea and what I want to portray in my piece. I will make sure that I make my dynamics more visible as my piece has the two different sleep stage, SWS which includes loose and relaxed movements and REM which is rapid eye movement with increase of heart rate. So in my choreography I need to make these two sections detectable and include fast sharp movements into slow and relaxed movements. In the time where I am executing the slower movements, I will catch my breath and energy so I am able to make my piece powerful right to the very end.

  1. I really enjoyed this blog and understanding about your reflections during this lesson. I think including your feedback emphasises your understanding and how you are going to reflect on these.
What were the learning outcomes of this choreography assessment?

    1. I finally understand how much you have to perform with your face not just your movements so having the studio performance has defiantly prepared me for the upcoming assessment.
Also learning all the different choreography sessions we have taken part in over these past few months have broadened my horizon when it comes to choreography and creating movements.

  2. I enjoyed reading your blog, I wondered if you had received any feedback from your friends in the first three creative sessions and whether you found them helpful?

    1. The feedback I received was to perform more to the audience using eye contact and making the use of breath more visible to help my idea come across more clearer.

  3. How did the Studio Performance create an impact on your creative process? What specific feedback have you received and how have you applied the feedback you received throughout the creative process? Also how will you ensure to create the best possible outcome?

Consider the brief and the learning outcomes for your choreography module, do you think you have you met all the criteria required?

This is a well-considered post and I feel you have shown a clear understanding of the topic, I feel the work you have produced so far is possibly around the 2:2 criteria. If you are looking to progress to a 2:1/1:1, it will be worth considering the quality of your reflective skills, research, ability to answer the questions and critical thinking. By demonstrating well-developed critical thinking alongside arguments as well as critically reflecting your process, showing awareness of own strengths and weaknesses and considering possibilities, and their consequences to develop appropriate actions, it will offer new questions for your consideration and may help you identify areas you might not have considered with within your project. Can you ensure you have evidence of these areas within your work.

  4. I believe that the studio performance created an impact in the creative process because it was the first time performing the solo in the space we will use in the assessment so we were able to figure out any spacing that needed fixing. Doing this really benefited me because I now understand how much more I need to travel in my piece.
