First Year: Justin Peck and Further Creative Tasks
Choreography 3
In today’s lesson we discussed Justin Peck’s choreograph and we noticed the reaccurring use of shapes during his piece. We watched a short documentary on him and he mentioned how he would draw out sketches while creating his choreography. We were then given a sheet of paper and everyone in the lesson all drew different shapes which we were then told that we had to create a phrase including all the shapes that was drawn. Due to injury I wasn’t able to fully perform this phrase and was only able to use my arms and upper body. I performed a circular motion with my arms for the circle shape and traveled walking in a circle to include my body. I continued using my arms as much as I could, changing the dynamics and the tempo throughout the phrase.

I liked how you used the circular motions within your wrists and arms to portray the shape of a circle. Did you enjoy the Justin Peck documentary? And what we’re you thoughts on his methods?
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Peck's piece and his style of choreography altogether. I also found that I related to some parts of his own choreographic process for example; he mentioned an interview that he sketched his ideas which fascinates me as I am an artist as well. Knowing that this is a way that helped him in the process, this is something that I will definitely look into when it comes to choreographing my own piece.
DeleteI really like the points you have included in this blog. I feel as though you need to go into more detail about the video of Justin Peck's choreography piece?
ReplyDeleteI have gone into more depth about Peck's piece in the critical review. See below.

You have included some good points. After watching the video, how did it inspire you to choreograph? Did you find Justin Peck's choreographing style difficult? Or will it be a method you will use again?
ReplyDeleteAs I mention above in Megan's comment, I picked up upon the use of his artistic skills and how he sketched out his ideas whilst choreographing. This will be something I will for sure focus more into as I relate to it and it could benefit me when it comes to choreographing my own piece.
DeleteWould you be able to expand on whether this task was successful and why? Also think about what you would have done or changed if you weren't injured?
ReplyDeleteDo you have any footage of the movement you have described within this post?
Unfortunately, I do not have any footage due to my phone being broken. I am sorry for any inconvenience.
