First Year: Choreographic Devices
Choreography 2

In our second choreography lesson we continued to focus on our duet we created last week which were included both mine and my partners name motif.
We were then introduced to different choreographic devices that we had to incorporate into our duet.
Me and my partner decided on the use of canon, accumulation, mirroring and unison.
Accumulation is seen in the first 8 counts as Lucy begins the movement and I join in at the same time and perform the fan kick in unison. Canon is used straight after when we throw both arms in the air one after eachother in a fast pace so we can catch up in unison once again. We decided on using mirroring in our duet as we thought it would bring something different and I personally wanted to try a device I haven’t used before in choreography and it’s turned out to be successful as we did the same original movement but Lucy went the opposite way using the opposite edge just emphasise the image of a mirror. And finally unison is used through out apart from the beginning which involves accumulation and canon.
Altogether, I think that it was overall successful and adding the choreographic devices made a big difference.
The second task that lesson was to create a motif on the subject of our zodiac sign. My sign is a Capricorn and I had to involve the following strengths including intelligent, practical, perseverant, generous and persistent as well as the weaknesses which are suspicious, lonely and stubborn. I wanted to use a mix of the strengths and weaknesses as I had a lot of ideas to portray each of them across in my motif. With the choreographic devices in thought as well, I wanted to play around with ones I haven’t used before which made this process of the mottif fun to do and create.

You have included some interesting points and have clearly structured the content of your blog.
ReplyDeletePlease think about the following points:
- More detail on the various choreographic devices we looked at during class is needed . (you could insert photos of the hand-out to illustrate this).
- What is the purpose of integrating choreographic devices and the exercise set in class?
- How did the integration of four choreographic devices affect your final phrase of movement?
- Did you notice any strengths or weaknesses? If so, how will you develop your weaknesses/ how did your strengths assist you within the task?
- Which choreographic devices did you use and why?
- What was the purpose of performing these tasks in front of the rest of the class?
I would like you to further develop your reflection of the zodiac task.
Think about:
- What movements did you use to portray certain qualities/ emotions and why?
- Do you think the purpose of the movement successfully came across to the audience?
- How did you find this creative task? Interesting? Easy? Difficult? Why?
- How did the allowance of more time affect the final product of your phrase?
- Did you notice any strengths or weaknesses? If so, how will you develop your weaknesses/ how did your strengths assist you within the task?
- What chorographic devices did you integrate and how/ why?
- Were you successful with the task set? Was it readable to the audience?
Please remember to link your videos in your writing, so as a reader there is a clear connection.
Also you do not have to limit yourself to one video. Uploading multiple videos will help illustrate your writing.
You have included interesting points, well done!

Thankyou for you comment Miss Norman.
DeleteI am unable to post further footage of the choreography sessions due to my phone being broken. I have a new phone now but I do not have access to any of the previous videos.
DeleteIn this blog you have included lots of interesting points. I really enjoyed watching your video and seeing the difference from last lesson. You have explored the choreographic devices in great detail. What parts of this task did you find challenging?
ReplyDeleteThere were some choreographic devices that I had never used before so that overall was a challenge using it in choreography for the first time. However, I feel more confident with the choreographic devices now and will definitely use some of them in future choreography.
